Bio
Roger is an Englishman and graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, (think UK’s West Point). In the1980’s as an R&D officer, projects included including Intelligent Knowledge-Based Systems, SCRA (precursor to cellphones) and mobile video conferencing; all innovative, transformational and disruptive. During the dot com era he was seen as an innovator. He was a founder/charter member of the International Business Forum and involved in early POC work on video conferencing for Apple’s 1st gen networks in Silicon Valley and NASA. His private sector entrepreneurial successes enabled him to “give back” to public education. He founded an ed-tech non-profit delivering information technology to public schools in the early 90’s; as a “mover and shaker” in K-12 education Roger introduced (c1999) the concept of “bussing minds not bodies” to his district. This telepresence like “shared learning” was a game changer, subsequently featured at Intel’s National Education Technology conferences. This led to recognition by the Center for Digital Education in the “Visionaries” edition of Converge Magazine as one of the “Shapers of the Future”, and becoming a Charter Member of Apple’s Education CIO’s Advisory Committee. Back in the private sector he led teams to deliver broadband microwave communications to over a million underserved rural students, adding VOIP and DE using video conferencing, ahead of mainstream adoption. As CTO in higher education, Roger enjoys sharing his passion for digital innovation, transformation and disruption focused on telepresence technologies, committed to… “Thinking Different… because… Shift Happens!”
