Grant Jones is the director of College I.T. Services at Ventura College. Jones recently brought together key internal and external stakeholders for the newly constructed and 18,000 square-foot Applied Science Center at Ventura College which opened its doors in time for the 2016 Summer term welcoming students and the community. Located 60 miles north of Los Angeles, Ventura College (VC) is one of three colleges in the Ventura County Community College District. Designed by Gensler, the Applied Science Center interdisciplinary facility houses a variety of spaces focused on interactive, project-based learning that supports students’ ability to collaborate, create, test and share. The Career Training Center is designed to give hands-on introduction to the functions, technologies, and tools used in applied sciences and industrial careers. Students test science and engineering concepts in the Visualization Classroom, an interactive, virtual 3D environment. Other learning spaces include two large lecture halls (120 and 200 seats). Before joining VC in 2010, Jones was the Global, Geo-Computing Manager at Swift Energy where he provided leadership and direction to the team responsible for the entire network, infrastructure, data, servers, hardware, and software related to geo-science operations worldwide. Since 1989, Jones has held numerous positions as an IT specialist and analyst. His education and training include: Chief Information Systems Officer Association (CISOA) Certification (2015); Master of Business Administration, Information Technology Concentration (2003) from the University of La Verne; Bachelor of Science, Geology (1992) from the California State University Bakersfield; Associate Arts Degree (1990) from Bakersfield College.
